I’m Absolutely Dorky About
1 The Moth podcast, which now includes the Moth Radio Hour.
2 Good podcasts in general. I love This American Life. I’m always looking for another podcast to get hooked on.
3 Bill Maher. Yes, I know he’s not every one’s cup of tea. Some might think differently of me knowing of my dorky love with this man. But, I’ve always been drawn to people who really don’t apologize for who they are. He’s one of them. He’s political. No matter how many times he says he’s lost faith in human kind, he always asks the questions and wonders why we all aren’t better humans.
4 My mother. Bless my soul. I haven’t seen her in a year and if I had the choice of taking a million dollor book deal or seeing her, I would take seeing her.
5 Jennifer Leeland. Some people probably don’t see her the way I do. But then again, I don’t see most people the same as anyone else. This woman is made of awesome. Go buy her books.
6 Conan O’Brien . I’m thinking it had to be 1999 or 2000 when I first watched this show. I’m going to go with 1999 when my daughter was born. Like clockwork at 10:45 she’d wake up screaming. This show came on and as I rocked and prayed for a deafness or sleep from pure exhaustion, I would watch this show and LAUGH. Yes, dorky humor. “In the year 22220000000″ But I’m just as dorky about it.
7 My children. No matter how I wish someone, sometimes, would just take mercy on me and pick them up or take me out like ol’ yeller, I’m dorky about them. I cry and moan about getting a break, once I have one I start to miss them. They make me a better person just by being themselves. Heck, they’ve given me an interesting story to tell about their birth. *Both were born on the same day, five years a part.* And, seriously, when I do something that makes them laugh, makes them happy it feels like I’ve cured world hunger. Since I’m raising kids they can’t do anything, but pick up my own bad habits of making people laugh just for the sake of a giggle.
Ex: I was cleaning my room the other day, I found one of my daughters gloves. With all the hubbub about Michael Jackson, I told her if she never found the other she can do it like M.J. She laughed and left my room. I forgot about it completely. A few minutes later she came in with the glove on, singing “Billie Jean is not my lover.”
If that doesn’t create dorky love I don’t know what can.
Tell me about the things your dorky about. Seriously, I can’t be judgemental, so share.

OMG I love it when they do crazy crap and make you laugh!!!
I know! I was talking to my sister the other day and telling her of all the crazy stuff my kids did. She told me my niece will put her underwear on over her jeans just because.
The Moth podcasts are awesome. But the radio show? Embarrassing. The host is a total amateur with a sing-songy voice. I couldn’t listen to three minutes of it.
To be honest, I zoned out whenever the host came on. I was just thinking, “get to the story”. I have a high threshold for sucky if it has a good story. It’s frustrating to wait every week for a new story, one that I’ve might heard before.
Vs. Getting the option of three to four stories in one sitting. I’m a glutton. God, help me.
#1’s latest trick is to do the Humpty Dance with his boxers sticking out of his friggin shorts LOL
